2010 Cream of Country Awards
There are only two words to describe the recent Cream of Country Awards, “WOW & WOW.” It was a remarkable result and a great reward for all the hard work performed by our small committee over the previous months, planning, fund raising, the many meetings. They are all heroes. The way the supportive member clubs within the region came together was truly awesome. Thanks to all those who offered help and mostly gratefully accepted on the day. To all the delegates who came some distance to attend the monthly meetings, I thank you all for your very constructive advice and comments. Your input made presiding over these meetings actually quite easy. To my wife Dian and helpers who worked tirelessly on the day also prepared supper to round off our committee meetings. throughout the year.
However for all of the best intentions we still made mistakes. One that actually sticks in my craw is the changing room saga. I still find it extremely difficult to understand how, after twenty plus years of Cream of Country Awards and other events at Morrinsville, there are no changing rooms. I do apologise for not being aware of this. Had it been pointed out I’m sure we could have arranged something. As for the other problems, I assure you that they have been noted and discussed at the recent committee meeting and some have already been rectified, i.e. we have booked the Morrinsville College Hall for next year.
Obviously some of the credit for the success of the event has to be the line up of awesome contestants who came from near and far, and those who were successful to compete in the final on the night. I have to say that in my view the performances were comparable to Australian Idol, I congratulate all of you and wish you all the very best for the future.
To the wonderful audience who just kept coming and coming, I do believe that the appreciative audience that you were, helped the participants present such a wonderful performance. Also thanks to the judges who had a very difficult job. Unfortunately there can only be one winner. Big thanks to Debbie Garmonsway of Cambridge CMC for a great job of scrutineering and printing certificates etc, and also to Marion Fisher who assisted throughout the awards
Finally, but certainly not least, the Sponsors. Firstly thank you to the loyal Clubs that put up the funds after the AGM 2009, which managed to get the region out of debt and able to move forward. Then to the event sponsors both the individuals and the business community, all of which gave so willingly, we thank you. I really need to thank a very special sponsor who has been actively involved from the very first meeting and was also the sponsor of the overall winner of $ 500.00 and that is Kiwi Pro Am whose involvement has been invaluable throughout the awards preparation.
I guess you may be sick of me harping on, but I am so impressed by the way the supportive, financial regional clubs came together, namely, Whangamata; Fountain City; Te Aroha; Huntly; Te Awamutu; Hauraki and Whitianga, some of the comments and offers of assistance from clubs outside the region was very encouraging. I thank all the Presidents, Committee, Regional delegates and members for their generous support, and would like to see you all at the 2010 Waikato Country Music Assn Inc. AGM on Monday 26 April 2010 at the Campbell Hall Morrinsville @ 7.00 pm.
I believe that the support for this event shows that Country Music is alive and extremely well.
Let’s keep it Country.
